James was called to the Bar in 2025.
Prior to coming to the Bar, James was a commercial litigation solicitor with Herbert Smith Freehills. James’ experience in commercial litigation includes insurance, financial services, corporations and torts matters.
James also has experience as an international lawyer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. His areas of interest include international nuclear, environmental and trade law, and international arbitration. He is also well versed in the domestic regulation of nuclear activities.
James served as Associate to the Hon Justice David Jackson of the Supreme Court of Queensland and the Hon Justice Roger Derrington of the Federal Court of Australia.
James received the University Medal in Law from the University of Queensland and holds the postgraduate Bachelor of Civil Law from the University of Oxford.
