Timothy Randall, Reader

Tim has a generalist practice accepting briefs in all areas of law except criminal, family and personal injury matters. He has a particular focus on the following areas: contractual disputes, revenue, property, admiralty and maritime, construction, space and international law. Tim accepts briefs to act as an arbitral secretary. 

Prior to the bar, Tim worked at international commercial firms, boutique litigation firms and a full-service regional firm. He has also served as the associate to the Senior Judge Administrator, Justice Martin AM, of the Supreme Court of Queensland. Tim holds an LLM from the University of Melbourne. He is a reporter for the Queensland District Court Reports.  

Tim accepts pro bono briefs to advise on public international law matters.

XYZ v Director of Public Prosecutions (Qld):appearing (unled) for both the Director of Public Prosecution (Qld) and the State of Queensland in a proceeding concerning the Supreme Court’s supervisory jurisdiction.

Greatrex v Murray [2025] QSC 85: led by David de Jersey KC – application for easement by prescription and grant of statutory right of user.

Associated International Group of Nurseries Inc v Nutrafruit Pty Ltd [2024] QSC 234: led by Matthew Hickey KC – interlocutory injunction concerning the management rights associated with plant breeder intellectual property in various countries.

Lina v Twadle [2025] QDC 121: acting for appellant where both leave to appeal and appeal were granted. Appeal concerned jurisdictional limitations of the Magistrates Court. 

Mannaert Pty Ltd v Darley Properties Pty Ltd (District Court of Queensland, Barlow DCJ, 19 December 2024): resisted interlocutory injunction with respect to a restraint of trade clause based on there being no prima facie case.

Grimshaw v State of Queensland (Magistrates Court of Queensland, Magistrate Mitchell, 23 September 2025): acting for the State of Queensland in a 3-day trial where the negligence claim was dismissed. 

MA & SK Jokovich Pty Ltd v Garland [2025] QCAT 191: acting for the homeowner in 3-day trial concerning a homebuilding contract debt and restitution claim.

  • Acting for claimant in an arbitration conducted under the Resolution Institute Arbitration Rules 2020.
  • Acting for builders and subcontractors in adjudications conducted under the security of payment laws.
  • Acting or advising in judicial review proceedings against the Australian Taxation Office concerning general interest charges.
  • Acting for a plaintiff in District Court detinue claim for the return of gold and silver bullions.
  • Acting or advising in marine insurance matters, lease disputes, insolvency proceedings, estates disputes, malicious prosecution claims and incorporated associations disputes.
  • Acting or advising for builders and homeowners in Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal proceedings
  • Acting in a negligence proceeding concerning United States tariff laws, including the application of the Tariff Act of 1930Customs Courts Act of 1980 and the Court of International Trade
